The perfect Springtime drink doesn’t exi- WAIT! YES IT DOES! This pastel blue iced chai latte is literally spring in a glass. Chai lattes are one of life’s greatest pleasures, but as someone who doesn’t dink a lot of caffeine I’ve struggled to find that authentic spiced chai flavor. So when I discovered Herbs & Kettles caffeine free blue chai I was so excited! Poorvi and Abe in Atlanta Georgia create premium, single origin, loose leaf teas directly sourced from sustainable farms in India.
“Through travel and direct collaboration with tea growers in different regions of India, we personally select single batch, single origin teas for your enjoyment. Our herbal and artisanal blends are crafted keeping in mind wellness, aromas and flavors. For us, tea is more than just a commodity, it is our passion.” And trust me, as soon as the aroma of the tea hits your nostrils you can tell the difference in quality compared to mass produced grocery store teas and the flavor is so rich and complex.

What is a Blue Latte?
My blue latte is made using Herbs & Kettles Blue Chai and almond milk. But, you can use any milk that you like! The vibrant blue color of the tea comes from an edible flower called the blue butterfly pea flower. What is blue pea flower tea and how do you make it? The blue butterfly pea flower is a bright blue flower from SouthEast Asia that’s often used to make teas and as a natural food dye. I often use it to make mocktails too! It has a pleasant herbal and earthy flavor profile. And- it changes color when you add citrus to it! But, we’ll save that experiment for another recipe.
How to make Blue Latte?
To make a blue latte chai all you need is one Herbs & Kettles Blue Chai tea bag, 4 oz of hot water, 4 oz of your favorite kind of milk, ice, and optionally some vanilla syrup if you want it sweet. Steep the tea bag in the hot water for 3-5 minutes then allow it to cool to room temperature. Once its cool add ice and the milk and enjoy! It’s so simple, but so pretty!

What Does Blue Latte Taste Like?
The blue chai has robustly spiced flavor with ginger, cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, black pepper and a hint of earthiness from the blue butterfly pea flower. It combines with the milk for a more delicate, creamy flavor that’s perfectly refreshing.

Ingredients Substitutions for Blue Latte Recipe with Butterfly Pea
While I do recommend making this iced latte with Herbs & Kettles Blue Chai you can easily swap out the milk for some variety. Coconut milk will have a richer flavor whereas almond milk will be a little more crisp. Oat milk will be extra creamy and for a dessert-like decadent drink you can use half and half (just don’t use quite as much half and half as you do milk or it will be way too rich). You can also sweeten this with a vanilla syrup or even a lavender syrup for a twist.

Tips for Blue Latte
Always steep it the full 3-5 minutes
To avoid a weak chai, make sure to fully steep the tea or else you’ll miss out on the flavor and color!
Let is cool fully
There’s nothing worse than adding ice to a latte only for it to all melt and leave you with a watered down drink. So be sure to allow the chai to cool completely before icing.
